Gurnee is supposed to be "just 45 minutes north of Chicago" according to the Six Flags ads. However, our visits this summer ranged from an hour to almost 2 and a half hours due to the construction traffic. We decided to brave that possibility on the last free weekend before school was in full swing for most of the state. Aunt Mandi had generously offered us some All-Access passes to Shedd Aquarium and we were extremely grateful and excited to have a reason to head into town. We never "go till we drop" on any family adventure so we always leave an undiscovered section of destinations to further explore on our next visit. We failed to anticipate how many people would have the same idea for filling said weekend. We watched the dolphin show from below which was really cool to see. We leisurely hit a couple favorites and called it a day. Shedd is planning a huge remodel so it may be a while before we return. Many thanks to Aunt Mandi for thinking of us.
